Re: Where are you ??

Well...Simo....maybe you're too loud for anyone to answer what you wanna hear.

Besides, I'm not sure you wouldn't trigger some negative move from the censorship authority if this site turns out openly as a mating room!!! Beware...big brother is watching us :)

Anyhow...apart from the fact that you are now single (I feel sad for you, of course, so I'd like to join your call and help you), I guess the right question is "why are you not staying on this site so we can chat".

I know it's not the right thread to dissert on that one, but still...any reader is welcome to provide  his/her views hereby.

My own opinion is that this site still miss the word of mouth effect...and because nobody like to be lonely on a forum, they (we) just go!

We can certainly make it happen by sustaining a good atmosphere, decent chats, funny posts, practical advices...and advertise more and more!! Thousands of people are looking to relocate to Dubai. They google a few keywords...and guess what? they do find the link for here, but it doesn't take long before they realize it's a no man's land (no woman's land as well!!).

Sharing video is not what people need in my opinion. Youtube is not banned here.

Building a community of friends with blogs, etc...? there are Facebook and Myspace.

All those meet the puropose purpose.

I'd rather say we guys ought to be innovative...if not cheeky! It took only a few weeks for Ibibo to be banned (for those who enjoy a free access, check it out). The number of new profiles (from Dubai) has been exponential...and the contents probably too much open. But it happened within weeks. I witnessed that by myself. until censorship struck last week!

We need a site with membera browsing facility. And of course, means to get in touch, through forums like this one. I think there should be only one subject of discussion, not multiple threads in one subject. It would facilitate access to the right posts by people who just pass by. Something similar to Dubizzle maybe...

Anyway, I live it to you now...let us know what you think...why people are not there!!!

Thx for reading down to that part! ;)

Re: Where are you ??

Good post notilus33 (had to double check the name :-)

I feel that UAE pretty much has enough online places to socialize.. facebook and orkut taking up the majority share. orkut may be banned but i just got done posting a scrap!

You may claim that it is not a UAE-specific site... but honestly folks, it doesn't really matter.

I don't want to discourage the creators of this forum, really i don't... but I have to say that owing to the number of features available on facebook, people would, by far prefer that from this website.

I'm a web developer myself and I can tell that a lot of hard work has been done to give this site what it has... but it really can't compare to the highly-paid engineering team sitting at facebook's headquarters.

Like I said, my intention is not to discourage you guys... what I rather feel is that we need a new direction... a purpose perhaps. Give this site a purpose other than just making friends. Perhaps a more charitable look, for example, that you'd share a part of your ad revenue with so and so charity. Or maybe a inter-cultural discussions forum, UAE has a lot of diverse cultures and a lot of them distrust one another. Perhaps you can use this as a forum to discuss the misconceptions.

Everyone's encouraged to brainstorm, I'd say!
